2 Peter 1
- 1Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained faith as precious as ours through the righteousness of our God and our Savior Jesus Christ.
- 2Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
- 3just as his divine power has given to us all things that belong to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who has called us by glory and virtue,
- 4by which are given to us very great and precious promises, that by these you might be sharers in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
- 5And besides this, doing your very best, add to your faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge,
- 6And to knowledge self-control, and to self-control endurance, and to endurance godliness,
- 7And to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
- 8For if these things are in you and increase, they make you neither idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 9But he who lacks these things is blind, and cannot see far away, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
- 10Therefore rather, brothers and sisters, do your best to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you shall never fall.
- 11For so an entrance shall be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
- 12Therefore I will not neglect to keep reminding you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth.
- 13Yes, I think it fitting, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,
- 14knowing that shortly I must put off this tent of mine, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.
- 15Also I will make every effort so that you may be able after my death to remember these things always.
- 16For we have not followed cleverly planned myths, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
- 17For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, I am well pleased with him.
- 18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
- 19We have also a more sure word of prophecy, to which you do well to pay attention, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the day star arises in your hearts,
- 20knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
- 21For prophecy never came by human will. But holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of 2 Peter 1 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
KJVSimon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

GIGAKJVGrace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
KJVAccording as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
GIGAKJVjust as his divine power has given to us all things that belong to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who has called us by glory and virtue,
KJVWhereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
GIGAKJVby which are given to us very great and precious promises, that by these you might be sharers in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
KJVAnd beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
GIGAKJVAnd besides this, doing your very best, add to your faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge,

KJVAnd to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
GIGAKJVAnd to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
KJVFor if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

KJVBut he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
GIGAKJVBut he who lacks these things is blind, and cannot see far away, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
KJVWherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
GIGAKJVTherefore rather, brothers and sisters, do your best to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you shall never fall.
KJVFor so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
GIGAKJVFor so an entrance shall be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
KJVWherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
GIGAKJVTherefore I will not neglect to keep reminding you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth.
KJVYea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
GIGAKJVYes, I think it fitting, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,
KJVKnowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
GIGAKJVknowing that shortly I must put off this tent of mine, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.
KJVMoreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
GIGAKJVAlso I will make every effort so that you may be able after my death to remember these things always.
KJVFor we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

GIGAKJVFor he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, I am well pleased with him.

GIGAKJVknowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
KJVFor the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
GIGAKJVFor prophecy never came by human will. But holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
