1 Peter 1
- 1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the foreigners scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
- 2elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, to obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. Grace to you, and peace, be multiplied.
- 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy has given us new birth into a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
- 4to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
- 5who are kept by the power of God through faith to salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
- 6In which you greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, you are in sadness through many kinds of trials,
- 7so that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tried with fire, might be found to praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.
- 8Though you have not seen him, you love him. In him, though now you do not see him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory,
- 9receiving the outcome of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
- 10The prophets who prophesied of the grace that should come to you searched and looked carefully into this salvation,
- 11searching what, or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ who was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
- 12It was revealed to them that not to themselves, but to us they served the things, which are now reported to you by those who have preached the gospel to you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven. The angels desire to look into these things.
- 13Therefore get your minds ready, be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
- 14As obedient children, do not fashion yourselves according to the former desires in your ignorance.
- 15But as he who has called you is holy, so be holy in every kind of conduct.
- 16For it is written, Be holy, for I am holy.
- 17And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to every man's work, spend the time of your stay here in fear,
- 18since you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your empty conduct received by tradition from your fathers,
- 19but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without any defect and without spot.
- 20He truly was known before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for you,
- 21who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God.
- 22Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit to genuine love of the brothers and sisters, see that you love one another with a pure heart deeply,
- 23being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and lasts forever.
- 24For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away.
- 25But the word of the Lord lasts forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached to you.
What changed from the KJV
GIGAKJV is a modern English revision of the King James Version. The comparison below uses the project's KJV text in the later 1769 tradition and marks, word by word, each verse of 1 Peter 1 where the wording differs: struck-through words are the KJV's, highlighted words are GIGAKJV's.
